I created this piece in response to my time spent working with veterans and from listening to their experiences through the art making process. I learned that there is more to war than just pulling a trigger. Working with these talented men and women, provided me with an opportunity to learn from and to teach different forms of expression. It gave me a chance to listen to their perspectives and converse about the unknown and unfamiliar. It allowed me to grow as a citizen, an artist, an educator, and as a person. As a citizen I can never truly understand war or fully grasp what they go through and sacrifice for our country. However, as a person I understand that those who do, deserve to be supported and understood by the country they fight for. This is piece is about the lack of transparency within America. This piece is about how we fail to understand the men and women that give part of their lives serving our country. This piece is for them.
